Mama’s Fish House has been the #1 pick for fine dining on Maui for years on end. It is a world-renowned, five-star venue that serves fresh fish caught daily and is popular for not only its delicious, impeccable food, but its picture-perfect location. Set literally beachfront at “Mama’s Beach,” in Kuau right past Paia town, the atmosphere is epitomal of romantic Hawaii. This is probably the most expensive restaurant to eat at on Maui. Because of its fame, Mama’s Fish House is held to very high standards that the staff maintain at great lengths with every service. Mama’s is known for their hospitality and making every guest feel welcome and special, and their attention to detail makes it the destination for celebrating special occasions. Mama’s is almost always booked solid. Particularly during the festive or holiday season, their reservations will be booked out by months or even up to a full year in advance. They accept walk-ins, but if you go at sunset (peak time) you could be waiting for over an hour to be seated. Reservations are very strongly recommended, especially if you are celebrating something special. If you do choose to go as a walk-in, try to go in the mid-afternoon. One huge downfall about dining at Mama’s is that the traffic through Paia can be absolutely terrible. The line of cars from the restaurant can sometimes stretch as far as a few miles, all the way to Baldwin Beach. If you have dinner reservations and are traveling from Wailea, or Ka’anapali especially, allow at least two hours of travel time. Alternatively, try to arrive in Paia town earlier on in the day and hang out in the area until your reservation.
